The Daylights

Going back to music of more emotive intentions, the local L.A. threesome of the Daylights bring that same sonic vulnerability to the stage with them, though they add in a little southern rock smoothness for flavor. The kind of gritty-melodic mix you’d swear was actually from Texas or Tennessee, the SoCal natives bring an emotional authenticity that’s an unfortunate rarity in the L.A. rock scene. Frontman Ran Jackson’s whiskey-soaked crooning brings a haunting folky atmosphere to his band’s music, while his band mates balance with more pop-geared strumming and pounding, for a well-mixed blend of catchiness and moodiness. - Brien Overly
