If you’re looking for an intimate bar with a speakeasy vibe, or an Eastside haunt where you can catch great live bands and DJs, The Virgil is your one-stop destination.

The latest bar from Temple Bar Concepts, who own the popular Del Monte Speakeasy in Venice, The Virgil houses two separate rooms, so you can have a low-key drink by one bar or dance the night away by the other.

Walking into The Virgil, you feel like you have entered a different time and place. Booths and candlelit tables line one wall, facing one of the venue’s two main bars. The lounge area manages to be both romantic and laid-back at the same time.

Head to the bar to try one of their classic cocktails (daiquiris, mojitos, pisco sours, caipirinhas and more), or one of the many craft beers on tap. In the mood for something more unique? Try a beverage off of their rotating monthly cocktail menu, which features local seasonal juices and homemade syrups. (This month’s strawberry cocktail special is the perfect mixture of tart and sweet, but you also can’t go wrong with the classic mojito.) And if you’re not sure what to get, the knowledgeable bartenders are happy to make recommendations!

The lounge area is the perfect place to ensconce yourself at a small table while listening to tunes off their eclectic jukebox, especially during their nightly happy hour (7-9 p.m., Weds.-Sat.), when you can enjoy $6 cocktails and $5 beer and wine, or stop by on a Tuesday for happy hour prices all night.

If you’re looking to get your dance on, head over to the music venue side of The Virgil, which houses a stage and a DJ booth as well as its own bar area, and offers live entertainment from bands and DJs Thursdays through Saturdays. The stage looks straight out of a cabaret, and it’s the perfect setting to let loose after a few tasty cocktails.

The Virgil is located at 4519 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles. For more information, visit thevirgil.com or call 323-660-4540.
