Win a Dream Trip to Alaska
If you’ve always dreamed of exploring Alaska, here’s an opportunity to maybe fulfill that desire. Beginning with a flight to Anchorage, the cruise and land tour includes a visit to Denali National Park where the winner will see Mt. McKinley, the tallest mountain in the United States. Then it’s off on a train ride to Whittier to board a cruise ship that’ll sail the Gulf of Alaska and the fabled Inside Passage, stopping at Glacier Bay National Park, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan on the way. The Kenai Fjords adventure will consist of hiking, kayaking, wildlife, fjord viewing and even a dog sled experience, all while staying at plush wilderness lodges. Savannah, Georgia’s Stopover Festival
Music lovers headed to the Peach State next month will not want to miss the Savannah Stopover Music Festival taking place March 6 to 8. Happening at various venues around the city, Stopover will feature more than 100 performances this year, including shows by Wye Oak, Small Black, Future Islands, Miniature Tigers, Caitlin Rose, Oberhofer and Those Darlins. The festival takes its name from the fact that bands “stop over” in Savannah on their way to the following week’s South by Southwest Festival in Texas. That means fans can see shows by an eclectic bunch of bands, including Speedy Ortiz, Kylesa, The Weeks, Wild Child, THUMPERS, Magic Man, Bear Hands, Ex Hex, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Clear Plastic Masks and dozens of others. www.savannahstopover.com

Projects Abroad: Clean Water for Tanzania
Projects Abroad offers students on break from full-time study a chance to do volunteer work overseas on a short-term basis. Their latest venture is two projects, bringing clean water to rural communities in the East African nation of Tanzania. One of the projects takes place in a Maasai community inside Ngorongoro National Park, where volunteers will build a solar pump that’ll eventually provide water for 500 school children, their teachers and the community’s health clinic. The other project will have volunteers working on improving a gravity feed water tank outside the city of Arusha. Projects Abroad has volunteer programs for students currently operating in 28 countries; find the details at www.projects-abroad.org.

Snorkel Booze Hunt in the Virgin Islands
Coral and colorful tropical fish are the delights that snorkelers usually expect when splashing in Caribbean waters. But those who snorkel in the U.S. Virgin Islands during Bolongo Bay Beach Resort’s weekly Snorkel Booze Hunt may also find treasure in the form of a free bottle of rum. The resort has hidden more than 41,000 bottles of the locally-made Cruzan rum over the years, which snorkelers look for on a “finders, keepers” basis. Located on the island of St. Thomas, Bolongo Bay is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and as part of the fun, the resort will also be hiding “messages in a bottle” throughout the bay; find one of those and you’ll have a voucher for a free two-night stay. The resort is also offering lots of specials that tie-in with the 40th anniversary for those who stay for five nights, including $40 credits on sail trips and food and beverage purchases. A passport is not needed to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. www.bolongobay.com
