The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire is a fair like no other. At no other fair will you get to experience the spirit of the Renaissance, a period in history when individuals celebrated the awakening of an idea.

Starting on Saturday, April 5 and lasting until Sunday, May 18 at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area, the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire will allow visitors to experience the Renaissance period with artisans, entertainment, food, games, rides and so much more!

There will be activities for everyone and some are perfect for children, including the “Gnome Quest,” “Merlin's School of Magic” and "The Giant's Treasure." In addition, there will be a plethora of arts & crafts and costumes that will take you back in time to this cultural, historical period.

Renaissance enthusiasts should note that this year’s event promises numerous new entertainment performances and shows:

-The Gaston House: This is a wonderfully detailed house that replicates what a summer home would look like between the 1480’s and the 1520’s, built by a wealthy European. There is elaborately painted ceiling, a reproduction of the St. Martin Church ceiling in Zillis, Switzerland; a tall fireplace like those illustrated in historic paintings, complete with a copper cover; and a working “sink,” comprised of a traditional carved stone niche with a hanging bronze Lavabo.

-The Jousters: Experience a jousting tournament firsthand with these talented performers. The Jousters will combine "art and combat, theater and sport to create an amazing spectacle of thundering horses and bone-crunching hits!"

-VaNa MaZi: This five-piece fuses music from Greece, Italy, Asia and the Balkans with "Gypsy jazz," "Turkish beats" and American heritage to create a one-of-a-kind folk sound.

Speaking of music, also make sure you check out “Wolgemut” (an ancient Germanic word that means “to be in a good mood”) is a new show and is full of fun, humor and energetic music and dance - it’s literally like a Renaissance rock concert!

Yummy culinary delights will be available at many booths throughout the grounds. A Fish & Chips booth will serve up all your favorite seafood combos: fish and chips, oysters and chips, calamari and chips, shrimp and chips, shrimp cocktails, oyster sliders and oyster shooters. You can also indulge in traditional English Renaissance staples like turkey legs, sausage, bread, cheese and more.

To top off the Renaissance culinary experience, visitors can get their mouths on yummy, delectable sweets like caramel apple dippers, "dirty" cupcakes (chocolate cupcakes with an Oreos baked inside!), churros, sweet peach fritters, French crepes, cream puffs, gourmet sorbet and so much more!

So, if you’re someone who appreciates culture and history along with good entertainment and scrumptious food (or if you’re just a total Renaissance/medieval buff), then the Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire is where you need to be.

The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire takes place on Saturdays & Sundays at the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area in Irwindale from Saturday, April 5 through Sunday, May 18. Times are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
