LJO: Tribute to Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington described his work simply as "American music" and enjoyed the dynamic of introducing seemingly ambiguous roots together to form a style that is distinctly Ellington. He enjoyed the vast majority of his works becoming instant sensations in the jazz world, and also across boundaries within pop music. His impact on the music world in general is as profound today as it was 50 years ago. The winner of 13 Grammy awards, 4 were awarded posthumously. Duke Ellington lived and breathed music- his famous last public words were, "music is how I live, why I live and how I will be remembered." The Luckman Jazz Orchestra rekindles the buzzing flame that Ellington ignited with a program of his biggest hits, and a few less known treasures.
