Phoenix

I never expected to like Phoenix. They were just … that band, always on the periphery of my radar, but the one I never gave too much extra thought to because they were kind of that band that regular people who get their music selections from MTV would list under their likes to make themselves seem more indie than they really were. And then it happened. I had unknowingly flipped to MTV while channel surfing. Then the video for “1901” came on and while I was OK with recognizing the song and video right away, I wasn’t prepared for the realization I knew all the words. More than that, my lyrical knowledge apparently goes as far back as the band’s 2001 work. Apparently this band is much better than I ever consciously gave them credit for. Or they worked out a sweet deal with the devil. Granted, they are French, so… - Brien Overly
