The LAIR
Daily.  The LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles) is the newest exhibit to open at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The facility encompasses several visually stunning areas that include habitats for various unique and endangered species. The LAIR is one of the few reptile and amphibian-focused facilities to open within the past decades in a North American zoo.

The unique collection in the LAIR comprises some of the rarest species among North American zoos – some of which are not showcased anywhere else in the world and others that have never been displayed at the Los Angeles Zoo until now. There are a total of 49 exhibits with over 60 species of amphibians, invertebrates and reptiles from around the world. MORE >>

LA River Expeditions
Saturdays, Sundays.  Sat, Jun 1, 2013-Sun, Sep 1, 2013.  This is a sporty, challenging, soft-bottomed section of the river with light rapids that is now officially opened up for recreational use (the first time since the river was channelized 80 years ago). In these guided recreational-educational trips, you'll paddle a lush 2.5-mi. stretch in your kayak, with all basic equipment provided, as you learn about the watershed, the wildlife, and the history and politics of our hometown river. You'll pick up paddling skills and learn how to be safer around rivers and, of course, you'll have fun and get some great exercise (Warning: This trip is arduous and is not recommended for everyone). At the end, you'll ride a bike back along the nifty, smooth bike trail, giving you yet a second insightful perspective on the river. MORE >>
