What’s Happening in Los Angeles
Thursday, Oct. 26
CURSIVE @ The Avalon
Tim Kasher and the rest of Cursive are set to hit Hollywood with their brand of emotionally charged rock akin to that of their label mates from Saddle Creek Records. The band is in support of its new album Happy Hollow, which looks at topics such as politics, the emptiness of suburbia and religious hypocrisy. The Avalon is located at 1735 Vine Street in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.avalonhollywood.com

Friday, Oct. 27
FUSION FRIDAYS @ Highlands Night Club
Fusion is at its utmost frenzy on the last day of the work week, a pure dancing extravaganza for Fusion Fridays at the Highlands Night Club. At the Hollywood hotspot, the club’s DJs combine music videos with the real time footage of club goers dancing their proverbial tail off. Add in some computer animation and you’ll realize why this club reaches zenith during the late hours. Highlands Night Club is located at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard #433 in Hollywood. For more information visit www.thehighlandsla.com.

Saturday, Oct. 28
ENCHANTED HALLOW’S EVE @ Eco Station
Frankenstein, the Mummy, and Dracula. We generally known them as classic horror film icons but seriously they’re not real. Spiders, snakes, and other creepy crawlers are real, the three causing goosebumps all over the body. At Enchanted Hallow’s Eve, the latter will be there as well as some secret corridors and hidden passageways. Trick or treating and costuming is welcomed. And yes, don’t worry not, even The Wolf Man will be there. Eco Station is located at 10101 Jefferson Boulevard in Culver City. For more information visit www.ecostation.org.

Sunday, Oct. 29
EXTRAORDINARY DAYS: THE BERMAN COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY @ The Getty Center
The pictures speak for themselves, photography is everywhere capturing all moments 24/7. Art is everywhere. That theme alone is the discussion for Extraordinary Days: The Berman Collection of Photography. Author Barry Lopez will highlight such topics as the relationship between physical landscape and human culture looking through the photo collection which depicts images of landscapes and the lifestyles of contemporary America (i.e. diners, farm fields and barbershops). Reservations are required. Call (310) 440-7300 to reserve your spot. The Getty Center is located at 1200 Getty Center Drive in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.getty.edu.

Monday, Oct. 30
LOS ANGELES KINGS VS. NEW YORK RANGERS @ Staples Center
Its been a rough start for the L.A. Kings so far this season, the team currently placed 11th in the Western Conference. But it’s still fairly early and like all good L.A. teams, a good and long win streak is likely to occur. Hopefully things can get back on the right track as the Kings do battle against the other fairly big team on the East coast, the New York Rangers. Its a L.A. vs. New York City showdown once again, one hopes we can get retribution for what their New York City baseball team (New York Mets) did to our precious Dodgers.  Staples Center is located at 1111 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.staplescenter.com

Tuesday, Oct. 31
GHOSTBUSTERS @ Egyptian Theatre
Done with all that trick or treating huh? Stuffed to the gills with all that chocolate and candy corn? So who are you going to call to help mitigate your Halloween hangover? Yep… you guessed it the Ghostbusters. The comedy classic directed by Ivan Reitman which stars Bill Murray is the perfect all Hollow’s Eve cure what with the proton packs, the Stay-Puft Marshmallow and come on… who can forget Slimer. The Egyptian Theatre is located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. For more information visit www.egyptiantheatre.com

Wednesday, Nov. 1
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FESTIVAL @ Olvera Street
A celebration in life in death, dreams and reality will occur for this two-day traditional Mexican festival. Olvera Street will be a grand spectacle with live music, dance and processions. Performances from Iztaccihualtl dance troupe Aztec Indians and Ballet Folklorico, will only add to the tribute as offerings will be made from Olvera Street. Also come for the Dia De Los Muertos art exhibit at the Pico House Gallery. The festival will be held at Olvera Street and Cesar E. Chavez Avenue in Los Angeles.
