US News and World Report recently ranked the Top 10 public colleges, and California owns five of them. UC Berkeley placed first, while UCLA came in second in a tied with University of Virginia. The other state schools that made the list include UC Davis (tied-8th), UC San Diego (tied-8th) and UC Santa Barbara (tied-10th).
