In response to the shooting that took the lives of two engineering graduate students, President C.L. Max Nikias of the University of Southern California and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have strengthened their forces to increase protection for USC students on and off campus. There will be additional Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers patrolling campus and its surroundings as well as additional Campus Cruiser drivers (Campus Cruiser is an initiative taken by USC to protect its students by offering free rides around the USC area during the night). In addition to these safety precautions, the University of Southern California will also increase its safety education for its students.
