After (ironically) being introduced by the local sheriff, Waylon Jennings opens his show with “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand” before, as if to prove the song’s notion, going on to offer a rather tame show. The late star’s set includes plenty of his big numbers like “Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line,” “Good Hearted Woman” and even “Good Ol’ Boys,” the theme from the “Dukes of Hazzard” television show, but Jennings looks uncomfortable throughout and even makes a couple of flubs such as starting to sing a song he had already sung earlier in his set.

In fact, the only time Jennings seems at ease is when his wife Jessi Colter joins him for a duet of “Storms Never Last.” While Jennings beams at his wife he happens to mention that he and Jessi have a 4-year-old son; Waylon doesn’t mention the kid’s name, but the reference is of course to Shooter Jennings who is now a star in his own right. This film doesn’t represent Jennings at his best but still it makes a nice keepsake - especially in consideration of the fact that there just isn’t much performance footage of Jennings available.

The US Festival was the brainchild of Apple’s Steve Wozniak; the San Bernardino event was abandoned after two years due to staggering losses thought to approach $20 million.
