Have you ever been in the situation where you need to call your friend but the fact that they’re within a one-mile radius makes it silly to waste your precious few cell phone minutes? Do you often lose your friends while hiking, camping or hanging out on the beach? If any of these are common problems with you, the Royal Outdoor Sports Series Two-Way Watch Radios may be just the gadget you need.
Each package comes with two watches that look like bulky digital watches, but offer that Dick Tracy-esque ability to call out by pushing a button and talking into your wrist. Obviously, these watches are intended for sports or camping, but the advertising claims that this can be used within crowds – like a mall – as long as it is within the mile and a half radius. The watches even offer 22 unique channels – meaning that you can have your friends buy multiple packs and tune to a unique shared channel – as well as a backlit screen for the watch.
Realistically, there are a few flaws. First, they are too bulky to just be mistaken for a normal watch on most wrists, so don’t think you’ll be fooling anyone if you have a skinny wrist. Second, your mileage may vary on the distance the watches receive signal from, especially if the land between you and your friend isn’t flat.
That said, this watch is a very cool gadget that will turn some heads, whether you’re telling a friend that you’re coming back with firewood for the campsite or calling your buddy to help you get away from someone at a bar.
