Portland, Ore., singer-songwriter Rachel Taylor Brown continues her examination of troubled souls and sometimes unpleasant but fascinating subject matter. This time, Brown is inspired by the darker side of comic books, the underlying mad-ness and misery of some Catholic icons and human insecurities.

Highlights include the quirky title track, a piano pop treatment about the Invisible Girl’s jealous sister and the angular “Bruce Wayne’s Bastard Son.” Despite morbid topics, Brown has an appealingly offbeat, chamber-pop stance that furnishes this album with low-budget charm.

Grade: B
