Led by a grieving teen (Diane Lane) who forms her band, The Stains, with a couple of her cousins, the girls take the world by storm with a flurry of media coverage. The film is a biting, sharply written satire, which wryly dispenses commentary on up-and-coming epidemics like girl bands, 15-minutes-of-fame reality show stars and the over-hype of media spin.
If that’s not enough of a reason to see Stains, here are three more: First, the film isn’t yet available on video or DVD; two, look out for early starring roles by Laura Dern, Ray Winstone and Christine Lahti; and three, it also features members of popular ‘80s bands like The Clash, The Tubes and the Sex Pistols.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains screens at midnight on Nov. 18 at LA’s Nuart Theater. The Nuart is located at 11272 Santa Monica Blvd., just west of the 405 Freeway, in West Los Angeles, (310) 281-8223.
