Who doesn’t remember banging pots and pans together as a child, hoping to be the next little drummer boy? And who doesn’t to this day, still feel like banging on something when the going gets tough.
If youre one of those people who never fully lived out your childhood aspirations
or if youre one of those who just has a lot of stress to relieve, the second
annual 24 hour Drum-A-Thon will give you the opportunity to do so. The only difference
is that this time there is a good cause behind it. Really, it will make you a
better person for doing it.
The 24-hour Drum-A-Thon, which takes place on March 25 is the perfect opportunity
to have fun and better the community at the same time. This special event is being
hosted to raise money for Habitat for Humanity a non-profit organization
that has been building and rehabilitating homes for families in need, since 1976.
The organizations mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness
from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat is not a giveaway program but provides help for people to get off their
feet. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners
invest hundreds of hours of labor into building their Habitat house and the houses
To date, the organization has built more that 200,000 homes around the world,
providing more than 1,000,000 people in 3,000 communities with safe shelter that
they can afford. So whats better than the feeling youll get knowing
that you helped to better someone elses life? No matter how old or how young
you are, you can take part in the event and bang away.
The Drum-A-Thon will take place at Bang a Drum in Los Angeles, which is considered
to be one of the premier drum shops in L.A.. The Drum-A-Thon will be lead by professional
drummers and teachers, who just might teach you a few tricks of the trade. And
if you find yourself enjoying yourself a little too much, Bang a Drum also offers
regular free drum circles classes, where you can have fun and meet other people.
Do you think you can be the last man drumming? Sign up, get sponsors and see how
much money you can raise. You just might find yourself wanting to get more involved
with the community. So, what are you waiting for? GET UP AND GET OUT!
