Vroom! Vroom! Adrenaline junkies and racing nuts it’s time to rev up those engines. Rev It Up, the world’s largest performance driving school and national racing competition is back in Southern California and ready to give amateur racers and those with the need for speed a chance to burn some rubber and a chance to win a Chevy Cobalt SS.
This popular program, which has attracted thousands nationwide in previous years gives those who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to get behind the wheel, the chance to do so. With training from professional drivers, attendees will be able to practice performance driving techniques on three twisty skills courses, where trainers will offer feedback, tips and have the laps timed.
Five different skills clinics will also be offered for people to learn about performance driving, car control, tire dynamics and braking techniques among other things, but most importantly, they’ll get tips that can be taken from the track to the street, for the everyday commute.
Hands down the highlight of the Rev It Up event is the competition aspect where drivers will be able to race two laps on the competition course, in one of five different divisions – including one solely for women – based on driving experience. The laps will be timed, which will then be converted into a score.
The best score in each of the five groups will receive a new pair of Piloti driving shoes and the person with the highest score will be named the City Champion and will receive an award.
Southern California competitors will also be able to see how their score matches up with competitors throughout the United States at Revitupracing.com. When the tour ends in August the person with the overall highest score will take home a brand spankin’ new Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe.
Competitors and general admission attendees will also have the opportunity to ride shotgun with a professional racer at the wheel. Passengers will be able to see and feels like to whiz around a racetrack at top speed.
Additionally, those who opt not to participate in the competition aspect of Rev It Up will find that there’s still plenty of action to partake in. A racing kart track, a special Chevy driving course where people can test drive the cars, food vendors as well as various exhibits will all be available to the public.
There are a limited number of competition slots available, so pre-registration is highly recommended. Competitors must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license to enter. The cost is $50 to enter the competition. General admission is free and open to the public for those who want to check out the action or test drive the line of Cheverolet cars on site.
The El Toro Marine Base is located at Marine Way, in Irvine. For more information or to register for the competition, visit www.revitup.com.
