In Scream, Casey [Drew Barrymore] claims that all of the sequels to A Nightmare on Elm Street "sucked." Wes Craven, who directed both Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street, sold the rights to sequels to A Nightmare on Elm Street before the film was released and became a success and disliked many of the sequels.
