Runner Runner

I’ve dearly loved this band and its constituent members for some time now. We’ve seen each other through hard times and good. But this, this might be our most trying dilemma yet. I did a lot of soul searching, a lot of contemplating, even turned to prayer for a solution to this crossroads in our relationship that Runner Runner and myself now stand at. It’s difficult to express such personal details in writing for so many strangers to read, but the first step of problem solving is always admitting there’s a problem, right? Runner Runner has been unfaithful to me. Yes, this show feature them opening for … Millionaires. Loathsome banes of my existence, a trio of pretend hipsters doing their best Britney – but without the good producers or makeup artists to make it work. Long have I foamed at the mouth over the most worthless “musicians” this side of Brokencyde, and here I am forced to put something associated with them in my column of awesomeness. So not fair. I’ll attempt to settle my rage by speaking to the reasons why you should go to this show, however. The SoCal boys of Runner Runner easily make some of the best, most infectious music to ever come out of the modern dance-pop genre. Needless to say, it’s really hard to do this kind of music and make it sound both legitimate and genuine. Just look at the headlining act. But these dudes pull it off effortlessly. Being able to invest themselves into their music and really bring it to life has always been their strength, something that has consistently carried across all the musical projects they’ve had hands in. Lots of people like to get to shows late and skip the openers because they don’t know who they are or just don’t care. Needless to say, this is the opposite of that, where you need to get to this show early, and you shouldn’t care about the band that happens to be performing last. - Brien Overly
