From Nairobi to Newark, Kool & the Gang has performed continuously longer than any R&B group in history and is the most sampled R&B band of all time, including by Madonna, Jay-Z, Beastie Boys, Janet Jackson, Cypress Hill, P. Diddy and more.
Thanks to iconic songs "Celebration," "Ladies Night," "Get Down on It," "Hollywood Swinging" & beyond, the group has sold 70 million albums worldwide with 23 records and almost 70 singles.
Since their start in 1964, the group has amassed two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top 10 R&B hits, nine Top 10 Pop hits, 31 gold and platinum albums, a BET Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award and star on theHollywood Walk of Fame.
Robert "Kool" Bell continues to tour the world for the better part of each year and is a United States ambassador of music and the arts to many countries, including to the Ivory Coast of Africa. The band has shared stages with Van Halen & Elton John toDave Matthews Band & The Roots.
Kool's bass guitar is featured in the Kool & the Gang display at the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.
In January 2015, REACH (Renewable Energy Applications to Conserve Humanity) appointed Kool as its Global Ambassador for Sustainable Energy. REACH is a center within the Galvin Center for Electricity Innovation at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, which works to make clean energy available globally.
