Shortbus/Hedwig and the Angry Inch @ New Beverly Cinema
One of the most prolific filmmakers to come out of
this early decade has been John Cameron Mitchell. His quirky musical
Hedwig and the Angry Inch got audiences in a frenzy, making Mitchell
the new poster boy for the indie film movement. Just recently, Mitchell
released Shortbus, a poignant/hilarious/incredibly provocative look at
sex and the interconnectedness that surrounds it. Double features like
this don't come around often. Enjoy. New Beverly Cinema is located 7165
Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.newbevcinema.com.

Of Montreal @ El Rey
Theatre
It's going to be a crazy 2007 for frontman Kevin
Barnes and his quirky group of rag tag musicians, which comprise the
indie pop outfit Of Montreal. While Hissing Fauna, is Barnes' most
personal album to date don't expect the doom and gloom of his
introspective lyrics to come out on stage. Always known for their sense
of theatrics, the group has made this tour their most ambitious tour
yet. Expect a ton of costume changes and the most theatrical of
theatrical, as Barnes will often sing inside a giant animal or wearing
a 10 foot high dress! The El Rey Theatre is located at 5515 Wilshire
Blvd. in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.theelrey.com

Banquet: A Feast For the Senses @ Pacific Asia Museum
Most of our life has been spent sitting down in
front of the dinner table. In it, we are connected with our friends and
family where stories of life, love, friendships, spirituality weave in
and out creating a sense of meaningfulness. In a new exhibit at the
Pacific Asia Museum, those ideas spread out in front of the banquet
table will be expressed through art via Banquet: A Feast for the
Senses. The exhibition will showcase an array of multi media showing
the link between food and culture through the means of art.Pacific Asia
Museum is located at 46 North Los Robles Ave. in Pasadena. For more
information, visit www.pacificasiamuseum.org.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs @ Staples Center
So far this season, the Lakers are a perfect 2-0
against the dreaded San Antonio Spurs. We've beaten them at our home
court and just recently pulled out a close win against the Western
conference heavyweights at their home arena. Like they always say, the
third times the charm, and because the third showdown will be once
again played under the lights of Staples Center, the luck will most
likely be on our side. Staples Center is located at 1111 South Figueroa
St in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.lakers.com.

UCBT's Monthly Open Mic
@ UCB Theatre
Think you’ve got what it takes to be a great
comic improviser? Well… the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in
Hollywood has something for you. During the last Monday night of every
month at 11 p.m. the UCB showcases an open microphone show. Ten
performance slots are available to sign up and by 11 p.m. you'll have a
1/11 shot to perform your comedic monologue about why “Little
Man” is the greatest film in the world. That may or may not be
true but as long as it’s funny and all under five minutes then
it’s all good. UCB Theatre is located at 5919 Franklin Ave. in
Hollywood. For more information, visit www.ucbtheatre.com/la

Channel Zeroe @ ROKBAR
Most of us know Tommy Lee as the sex, drugs and
rock 'n' roll drummer for '80s heavy metal act Motley Crue. Nowadays,
the man can be seen on reality shows and owning bars, most notably
ROKBAR in Hollywood. What we don't know is the man's love for hip hop,
which was shown during his Methods of Mayhem (you know that “Get
Naked” song) and is featured prominently during Channel Zeroe, a
Tuesday night ritual at the club. Some of the finest old school,
R&B, dub and dance floor fill up the bar. And don't worry none of
that rock-rap stuff.
ROKBAR is located at 1710 North Palmas Ave. in
Hollywood. For more information, call (323) 461-5600

Speed-the-Plow @ Geffen
Playhouse
Writer David Mamet and plays go together like
peanut butter and jelly. A defining artist Mamet has parlayed his craft
into the realm of Hollywood but many know and love him from his work on
the stage. From American Buffalo to most notably Glengarry Glen Ross,
the man can do no wrong. The Geffen Playhouse will present another
classic penned by Mamet. Speed-the-Plow tells the story of studio
executive Bobby Gould and the decisions he must make in the breakneck
world of Tinsel Town. In this case he must choose between producing a
formulaic prison-breakout drama with a big star already attached, or
an obscure mystical novel by an "Eastern sissy
writer.” Hollywood is satirized to its utmost by Mamet's
ingenious wit. Geffen Playhouse is located at 10866 Le Conte Avenue in
Los Angeles. For more information, call 213-480-3232
