What’s Happening in Los Angeles

America's Best Comic @ UCB Theatre LA
America is filled with millions of comics, so it's quite difficult to find America's best comic. Thank god the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre will determine who really is America's best comic with the show aptly named America's Best Comic. Searching across our many seas, lakes, hills and valleys the UCB has found our two finest comedians: Jason Yellow and Jerry O'hearn. Prepare for a showdown for an epic match-up of two heavyweights. Who will win…well you're going to have to find out yourself. UCB Theatre is located at 5919 Franklin Ave in Hollywood. For more information, visit www.ucbtheatre.com/la.

Friday, March 2
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Sacramento Kings @ Staples Center
Hallelujah! After a recent six game skid, the Lakers look to be on the right track after a win against the lowly Boston Celtics. And like the recent losing streak, the lost opportunity of acquiring New Jersey Nets point guard Jason Kidd was a sad day (s) for all Laker fans. The Lakers must however look past all that and get ready for the stretch run with all signs pointing directly to the NBA playoffs. First stop, the Sacramento Kings. Sure the rivalry that once enamored the NBA is long gone but the Kobe Bryant/Ron Artest match up always intrigues. Staples Center is located at 1111 South Figueroa St. in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.lakers.com.

Saturday, March 3
Play It Again, Sam/Modern Romance @ New Beverly Cinema
Valentine's Day is over, but it doesn't mean we can't feel the love when we step into any movie theater. The New Beverly Cinema offers a double feature that'll bring all the affection it can muster, courtesy of some of America's greatest comedic minds. “Play It Again, Sam” written/directed by Woody Allen, tells the story of a film critic (Allen) who gets back into the world of dating with help from a married couple and his alter-ego, yep you guessed it…Humphrey Bogart. Modern Romance, directed/co-written by Albert Brooks deals with a film editor (Brooks…the connections continue) and his relationship with his girlfriend and the troubles they both go through in due part by Brooks' many issues. It's going to be a neurotic Saturday night.  New Beverly Cinema is located at 7165 West Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.newbev.com.

Sunday, March 4
Los Angeles Marathon
First off lets give credit were credit is due, you’ve got to have the guts to run the Los Angeles Marathon, a beast of a run: 26.2 miles long. Thousands are more than likely to run this landmark of an event but for you, the TV watching, chips eating aficionado why not show a little bit of support and join the millions cheering on the thousands, as they sprint/or mildly walk down the vision line. The Los Angeles Marathon is located at Figueroa and Sixth St. in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.lamarathon.com.

Monday, March 5
Living Room Series at The Blank Theatre Company @  2nd Stage Theatre
Theatre aficionados who always dream of being on stage and perform their hearts out now have a chance (though slightly altered) to do that with the Living Room Series. Once a month, patrons gather in a circle and read a play out loud together. Any role can be played by anyone. Brush up on those acting chops of yours and get ready. The Blank Theatre Company at the 2nd stage Theatre is located at 6500 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.theblank.com.

Tuesday, March 6
Albert Hammond Jr. @ El Rey Theatre
Many of us know Albert Hammond Jr. from his regular day job as guitarist extraordinaire for New York's The Strokes. But we'll soon see a different side of Hammond as he releases his debut CD Yours to Keep on March 6. The CD which features guest appearances from Ben Kweller, Sean Lennon, and Strokes running mate Julian Casablancas, offers a much sweeter, even at times sunny musical perspective than the gritty urban outlook attributed to The Strokes. El Rey Theatre is located at 5515 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.theelrey.com.

Wednesday, March 7
Club Moscow @ Boardner's
Even with monthly residences from such LA local bands like Monsters are Waiting, Club Moscow has become one of the LA's hottest clubs in due part because of DJ Keith Wilson and his heavy music mixes of either electro, indie or pop bouncing off the walls. It also helps that young hipsters (well 18 and over) can storm down its rooms and dance the night away. Boardner's is located at 1652 North Cherokee Ave. in Hollywood. For more information visit www.boardners.com.
