LOCAL MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: VIDEOSTAR
Thursdays @ Key Club

Video Star is a New Wave band from London, England...(depending on which band member you ask). Led by Lead Singer Roland, who pretty much wrote every New Wave hit song in the '80s, or so he says...(drummer Nigel is quick to debunk this notion throughout the show), they play to and entertain enthusiastic audiences all over the world.

Catch Videostar Thursday, June 2 at 8pm at Key Club. For more info, go to www.keyclub.com or call (310) 274-5800.

ULTIMATE IMPROV
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights @ Ultimate Improv Theater

Life is improvisation. And while most dread the spontaneity required of everyday existence, some revel in uncontrolled and unplanned hilarity. For the company members of “Ultimate Improv,” the passion to improvise is the definitive high-wire act – inspired in the moment and never looking down.

Catch Ultimate Improv on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights @ Ultimate Improv Theater in Westwood. For more info, go to www.ultimateimprov.com or call (310) 824-6566.

Saturday, June 4

LIVE MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: The Mars Volta
June 4 @ The Greek Theater

With their mix of Led Zeppelin-style soaring vocals, Salsa beats and extremely technical and schizophrenic melody, Volta takes the stage this summer as the band that everyone wants to have thought of first.

This show will be the perfect way to kick off your summer, a gorgeous night filled with mind-expanding music flowing like tangible hallucinations from the stage to your ears.

For more info, go to www.themarsvolta.com.

FILM SCREENINGS: POLLOCK
June 5 @ The Getty

In the 2000 independent film Pollock, the adaptable Ed Harris starred in the title role of the late artist who, though leading a tumultuous life which ended when he was a mere 44 years old, proved to be an extremely innovative painter. Harris also directed the film and even earned an Oscar nomination in 2001 for best actor. Even though he didn’t win, Harris’s Pollock brought the life and work of the pioneering artist into the limelight.

For more information, visit www.getty.edu.

LOCAL MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: The Vacation
June 6 @ Gallaghers

It’s dirty, it screams, it explodes, it smears you with libidinous excess – and, at the end of the set, it sprays you with some stray particles of cheap beer. On the streets of Silverlake and Hollywood, where dirt is an integral part of the atmosphere, The Vacation take the stage and plant three sticks of dynamite under the derriere of L.A. rock, clearing away once and for all the impression that pure rock ’n’ roll has its headstone chiseled here.

Catch the L.A. Underground featured band at Gallaghers in Huntington Beach. For more info, go to www.thevacationmusic.com.

Tuesday, June 7

DODGERS VS. DETROIT AT DODGER STADIUM

Opened in 1962, Dodger Stadium stands in the center of Los Angeles. With the capacity to hold 56,000 fans, the stadium has a history rooted in the history of its home team. The history of the Dodgers is that of a team that had never even played a home game in Los Angeles until The Beatles started their transition into liberal rock n roll.

Catch the Dodgers play at this baseball landmark against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, June 8. For more info, vist www.dodgers.com.
