STAGE: THE FULL MONTY
@ Long Beach Performing Arts Center
Back in 1997, a little diamond of a film titled The Full Monty gave new meaning to the word "revealing," with the story of six unemployed British steelworkers who go into the stripping business for some much needed cash. They find they can make some real money if they go the "full monty" (completely nude). The Broadway stage version received a lot of attention at the 2001 Tony Awards and, now, Angelenos will finally see live and in color what the hoopla is all about when the production comes to Long Beach.
The Long Beach Performing Arts Center is located at 300 Ocean Blvd., Long Beach. Ticket may be purchased through www.theaterleague.com. For more info, visit www.thefullmonty.com

MUSIC: MOTO MUSIC MAYHEM
@ Diamond Stadium
OK, so Yellowcard is playing this event, headlining no less. Normally, we would never condone support of this band or the kind of music they stand for, but this is one of precious few occasions where we’ll make an exception. Not because the Card has done anything spectacular to win us over … it just has the fortune of some really good semi-unknown bands opening for it.
From the epic pop-punk of Over It, with its guilt-free infectiousness, to the manically crazed LetterKills, to the old-school garage metal of hot like (A) robot, this show has all the makings for a day of hard rocking. And you get to go home early and sleep away your exhaustion too (don’t worry, we won’t tell Yellowcard you skipped out on its set).
Diamond Stadium is located at 500 Diamond Drive, Lake Elsinore. For more info, visit www.motomusicmayhem.com

EVENT: GREEN DAY
@ Home Depot Center

If you’re not down with Green Day, well … there’s something wrong with you. Maybe you’re mentally handicapped, maybe you’re just a snob, or maybe you just can’t take the Bloc Party or Hawthorne Heights albums out of your CD player long enough to know real rock when you hear it. Suffice to say there’s ultimately something wrong with you.
That said, if you’re a longtime fan, you know how amazing this band is live and how amazing they always have been, even through its many different stages. If you’re new to Green Day, you’re in luck because this album provided the perfect jumping-on point for unconverted listeners. There are a lot of people who would say they don’t like so-and-so anymore because they’re all over MTV now, but not with Green Day, which makes it very OK to proudly say you’re into the same band as like, everyone else.
The Home Deopt Center is located at 18400 Avalon Blvd., Carson. For more info, visit www.greenday.com

COMEDY: KNOCK, KNOCK WHO'S DEAD?
@ Steve Allen Theater
Knock Knock, Who's DEAD?! tells the chilling tale of a mansion full of crazy idiots trying to solve multiple homicides and the increasingly complicated theft of the World's Most Beautiful (and Valuable) Painting.  Poor actors have to contend with the fact that they are all bickering, drunken, barely-functioning cretins.  But when the cast of the play-within-the-play starts turning up dead, the show can barely hold together at its seams!!!
Knock Knock, Who's DEAD?! is a wicked send-up of murder mystery conventions, a heartless satire of dinner theater, a fast-paced farce and a black comedy about a bunch of dumb-dumbs falling over!
The Steve Allen Theater is located 4773 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. For more info, visit cfiwest.org

Wednesday, Oct.12

CLUB: IVAN KANE'S FORTY DEUCE
@ Forty Deuce
"Moulin Rougue" meets the cabaret scene from "Diner." Forty Deuce is a throwback to the days of old-school burlesque. The striptease dancers are backed by a three peice jazz combo. The bar doubles as a stage. When the girls aren't dancing, Forty Deuce feels like a speakeasy or classic Vegas lounge and the DJ's spin everything from Sinatra to the Stones. Plus it has become a celebrity hotspot.
Forty Deuce is located at 5574 Melrose Ave., Hollywood
for more info visit www.fortydeuce.com
