What’s Happening in Los Angeles

Thursday, Dec. 7
Holiday Nights at the Grove @ The Grove at Farmers Market
We all know The Grove. High end dining coupled with equally high shopping and a pretty good movie theater to boot. But when Christmas rears its head, the popular hangout becomes a winter wonderland. While you do all your holiday shopping, do bother to check out the 110-foot white spruce the largest public Christmas tree in Los Angeles. And remember to stay until 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. as the always-popular “snowfall” will occur. It’ll probably be the only snow you see in the city of angels this Christmas. The Grove at Farmers Market is located at 189 The Grove Drive in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.thegrovela.com

Friday, Dec. 8
The Aquabats Holiday Extravaganza @ El Rey Theatre
Melding rock ‘n’ roll with new wave punk and a trickling in of ska, Huntington Beach’s own The Aquabats have been entertaining many audiences a like. The albums are always fun what with their outrageous lyrics but what makes the Aquabats float above all the rest, are their live shows.  Often times the band is attacked by super villains on stage. Who knows what tonight’s holiday extravaganza will bring. Just know if an evil Santa comes across The MC Bat Commander, Mr. Claus will definitely be going down. Tickets are available via www.ticketmaster.com El Rey Theatre is located at 5515 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.theelrey.com.

Saturday, Dec. 9
Fiddler on the Roof @ Morgan Wixson Theatre
Poe people want cool Xmas gifts too!  This year, don’t be a stooge to corporate America!  Get your shopping done without stepping foot in the mall.  At the 3rd Annual Alt Holiday Book Bazaar meet cool writers, buy amazing books and have them inscribe them with holiday cheer.  Saturday, Dec. 9 from  5 to 9 p.m. at the Wax Poetic Gallery 3208 W. Magnolia Blvd., in Burbank.  For more info, visit www.waxpoetigallery.com or altbookbazaar.com.

Sunday, December 10
Jay Leno @ The Comedy & Magic Club
Even with all the success of “The Tonight Show,” Jay Leno still wants to entertain. Always a stand up comedian first, Leno has been showcasing new material to the masses on Sunday nights at Hermosa Beach’s The Comedy & Magic Club. Remember to make reservations as the shows do sell out in advance. Catch the hilarity and who knows maybe a little bit of vulgarity (remember even though its late night, it is still not allowed). The Comedy & Magic Club is located at 1018 Hermosa Ave in Hermosa Beach. For more information visit www.comedyandmagicclub.info.

Monday December 11
Los Angeles Clippers vs. San Antonio Spurs @ Staples Center
The classic saying goes, “To be the man you have to beat the man.” And for the past several years the man in the Western Conference has been the San Antonio Spurs. Chock full of great players like Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, the Spurs have been at the top of the echelon. But don’t count the Clippers, with their young nucleus of Elton Brand, Chris Kaman and Shaun Livingston, the Clips look to be heading down the winning road San Antonio went through six years ago. Monday’s night match up will definitely be an entertaining contest. Staples Center is located at 1111 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.clippers.com

Tuesday, Dec. 12
Re-Animator/Dead Alive @ New Beverly Cinema
Nothing says Christmas more then reanimated corpses and chopping up a plethora of zombies. Santa would probably faint by all the copious amounts of blood and brains but hey… after all the caroling and such don’t you at least a little bit of a kick me up. The former while offering a splatter here and there can’t match up with the latter. Dead Alive directed by Peter Jackson is an entertaining ride of sheer zombie destruction. It’s also quite possibly the bloodiest film ever made but strangely enough highly comical.  New Beverly Cinema is located at 7165 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.michaelwilliams.com/beverlycinema

Wednesday, Dec. 13
Radio @ Star Shoes
Club residences are usually found on the ever-popular Tuesday or Sunday but what about Wednesday? On hump days you usually are a mess due to all the work-ridden blues. Cure yourself with some help from Radio at Star Shoes, the popular Hollywood hot spot. House, funk and everything 80s will be in store. Hope you got a good pair of dancing shoes on. You’re going to need them. Star Shoes is located at 6364 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.starshoes.org.
