Although I’m sure this DVD’s creators’ intentions are to spread the message of its title, Africa Unite, one of its greatest aspects is watching the Marleys perform: Stephen, Ziggy, Julian, Damian, Ky-Mani, Cedella and mother Rita. They all channel some facet of Bob onstage, whether in appearance, body movement or vocal semblance.

Africa Unite follows the Marley family on their first-ever trip to Ethiopia in 2005 to commemorate Bob’s 60th birthday. In the capital city of Addis Ababa there’s a weeklong event and 12 hour concert.

Another precious part of this project is viewing snippets of Bob singing, chilling and philosophizing. If you’ve ever seen Bob speak, it’s deep, prophetic and random all at once.

Interspersed are appearances by UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Danny Glover, Marley in-law Lauryn Hill and interviews with myriad people addressing the topic of the DVD’s title.
