“The word prehistoric means before history … Without a written record, the archaeologist can depend only on what is found in the ground.” Thousands of years of rituals, ceremonies and sacrifice are represented in the pieces presented in Bog People, an internationally touring exhibit making its only West Coast stop at the Natural History Museum in L.A.



Over the 10,000 years following the Ice Age, thick layers of peat developed in North Western Europe. The bog earth was used for grain cultivation, but by the 16th century became exploited in pursuit of peat for fuel. More than 420 unique artifacts and 6 naturally preserved mummies found in the bogs by peat-diggers comprise this amazing show.
