The founder of the Misfits in 1977 and Samhain in 1984, Glenn Danzig carried the
bloodied wooden cross beyond the threshold of darkness with the creation of his
namesake Danzig in 1987. Now entering his fifth decade of torturous soul-searching
on this dark planet, and having written and performed for 30 years, he’s
gathered six of his favorite songs and compiled various video versions for your
sadistic pleasure on Il Demonio Nera.
The new century man in black and controller of mind, body and production chose
to showcase various versions of songs previously masterminded on Danzig 4 and
Danzig 5. Herewith are black-and-white and color displays of gargoyles, cloaked
skeletons, symbolic body paint, leather masks and even brief breast nudity. It’s
all absorbed via creative license with the use of strobe lights, shadows, stage
and location performances. You’ll gaze at MTV versions of "Until You
Call on the Dark" and "I Don’t Mind the Pain." You’ll
feast on the previously unreleased "Sadistikal" and "Serpentia."
Glenn Danzig and other notables directed the productions. But the buff frontman
is the pin-up boy throughout, as you’ll barely get a peek at the vintage
or new chapter supporting musicians displayed merely in silhouettes or a blink
of the eye.
