Flipper was a Bay Area band that garnered a cult following in the early ’80s despite (or quite possibly because of) the fact that they were a total train wreck. The band tried to fit into the hardcore scene based on the fact that their “music” was completely undisciplined, but in reality the situation was an exercise in self-embarrassment.

In the live material offered up here the band sings and plays terribly, they start and then stop songs abruptly without explanation or completion; they sing and speak off-mic and knock their equipment over accidentally. None of this is apologized for and even though band members are seen drinking beer and wine on the stage it is doubtful that all of this nonsense is due to drunkenness.

The Ramones started off like this, but they quickly learned how to put on a professional show; Flipper’s act just got old.
