Here comes a new live DVD. That One Night captures the band's 2006 performance in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Despite the (mostly correct) assumption that the band's glory days are behind them, the Argentine crowd didn't seem to agree during this particular night, turning out in droves and furiously bobbing along to the music. The band is tight and the songs sound almost like fans would remember, yet Mustaine's voice is a bit weak (especially early on), and guitarist Glen Drover has a bit of trouble playing some of ex-guitarist, Marty Friedman's parts.
The new members hardly acknowledge each other's presence onstage, and it almost seems like a business partnership instead of a rock band. In fact, when band classic “Holy Wars” closes the night out, Mustaine and company appear to be merely going through the motions. Some they can't maneuver anymore.
The disc has no special features other than an alternate mixing of the song, “Symphony of Destruction,” but you'll be hard pressed to find just what is different about it.
The only thing original about Megadeth now is the band's name and founder/singer-guitarist, Dave Mustaine. With so much of its legacy owed to so many other ex-members, the question you have to ask after watching the concert is: who is Megadeth?
