Imagine Homer Simpson sees a donut. His heart slows down and then starts beating fast, so fast, too fast. His pupils dilate. He starts rocking back and forth. He can taste it in his mouth, feels the doughy delight coursing through his veins. He feels lightheaded. He reaches out … almost. Except it is everything but sweet and homey.

Blood, gore, incoherent images and graphics combined with the persistent sound of drums and, of course, electric guitar performed by guys with X face masks and painted bodies make up Mushroomhead’s newest DVD. Ahh, yum!

Released by Megaforce Records, Volume 2 follows the band as it goes on its Savior Sorrow (Mushroomhead’s latest CD, released in 2006) Tour and stage dives amidst its bare chested, screaming fans. Caught on camera are live footage and never-before-seen content from the past three years that showcase some very interesting scenes of the band members playing practical jokes on each other, the crew and their groupies.

In addition to band interviews and commentaries, Volume 2 includes “1200,” “Burn” and “Simple Survival” music videos. The DVD also features a brand new video called “Save Us” that’s different from the band’s usual work.

On this song, it’s almost as if Waylon’s voice has turned melodious and calm; as if he is singing a love ballad. And it would be believable if it were not for the appearance of the band’s other vocalist, Jeffrey Nothing.
