If ever there was a band ill fitted for the “greatest hits” treatment it’s Radiohead. A group who has continually shirked industry conventions since achieving mainstream success with its first single “Creep,” they have since gone as far as releasing their latest album for free online. But Capitol, their former record company, wasn’t averse to trying the retrospective formula on a formula-less band.

The two-disc special edition CD collects 17 of Radiohead’s most popular tracks spanning the band’s many incarnations, including “Karma Police,” “High and Dry” and “Paranoid Android.” The second disc includes less widely known tracks, including “True Love Waits,” a live cut unavailable on any studio albums.

It’s a good – if a tad schizophrenic – primer for the uninitiated. But for a band whose albums are each conceptually unique and worth exploring in depth, it can’t possibly do them justice.

Capitol has also released a DVD collection of the band’s music videos. Highlights include: the R. Crumb-esque animated “Paranoid Android,” Michel Gondry’s “Knives Out,” the stop-motion “There There” and a live performance of “2+2=5.”
