The reggae-hip-hop-punk-acoustic rock infused band, known as Slightly Stoopid, has been at it since its teen years, living a stereotypical Southern California laid back lifestyle. And apparently there’s nothing wrong with that. The members’ sun-soaked, weed-smoking, female-loving nature has attracted legions of die-hard fans to their signature sound. Anyone who’s ever seen the trio live knows that despite the relaxing jam band-esque vibe it gives off, its shows are nothing short of a party. But the Slightly Stoopid party shot on November 25 and 26, 2005 in San Diego doesn’t really transcend through the television set the way it should have. The live concert footage is excellently shot and the sound quality superb, but there is little to no excitement or action going on onstage. Those looking for a performance DVD won’t find it here. Even the energy from the live audience doesn’t seem to pick up until mid-way through the set, and by then viewers at home may find themselves using it as background music as their attention veers elsewhere. The extras, an on the road segment and an interview with the band members, are pretty much pointless and offer no additional insight into the band. Live in San Diego is something that any true Slightly Stoopid fan will want for their collection – for it is aurally pleasurable – however, it’s nothing that will make you want to watch again and again.
