This film does an excellent job of capturing the raw energy of Wolfmother as the power trio plays to a huge crowd in their hometown of Sydney, Australia. With a hairdo as big as the body of his guitar and a voice that slides into an effortlessly twisted falsetto, singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale cuts a striking stage figure reminiscent of Marc Bolan (T. Rex).

But glam is only a minor ingredient in the Wolfmother meal; these guys feast on a hearty stew of Led Zeppelin (“Vagabond,” “Woman”) and Black Sabbath (almost everything else) with occasional forays into Who territory. Derivative? Sure, but that’s the idea.

Wolfmother loves the heavy rock sound pioneered 40 years ago, and they do a great job of bringing it into the 21st century. Stockdale’s guitar work is ace throughout, but he outdoes himself with a six-minute intro to “Mind’s Eye,” a spectacle that ends with him prostrate on the stage and the rest of the band slumped in mock exhaustion.

Lots of extras are tacked on after the 12-song show, including an interview segment and the five videos the band has made so far.
