Eight years, four categories, one winner. The eighth annual Best In Drag Show will be held at the Orpheum Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. A pre-show cocktail party will kick off the night at 5:30 p.m.

The nonprofit organization Aid For AIDS holds the annual AIDS fundraiser to raise money for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS who are living at or below the poverty line in Los Angeles County. Last year the show raised over $300,000, and it has raised more than $1.5 million in seven years.

A panel of celebrity judges will determine who is best fit for the title of “Miss Best In Show” among the six contestants who will compete in the categories of: swimsuit, talent, evening gown and Q&A. Between segments a duo of real drag divas will offer comedic commentary on the contestants, who normally don’t dress in drag.

Kathy Griffin has called the show her favorite charity event, and she traditionally opens the show if she’s in town. The celebrity judges enter the show on the red carpet outside, which leads to a pink carpet inside. Anna Faris (House Bunny), Dot-Marie Jones (“Glee”), Linda Hamilton (Terminator 2), Kathy Kinney (“The Drew Carey Show”), Jayma Mays (“Glee”), Chris Pratt (“Parks and Recreation”) and John C. Reilly (Cyrus) are confirmed celebrity judges for 2010, and more are to be announced. The master of ceremonies for 2010 is Jason Dudey, stand-up comedian and show veteran.

The extravagant evening gown costumes are unlike those in traditional pageants, with past costumes turning into a steamboat, chicken coop and a New York skyline.

Aid for AIDS sends 92 percent of revenues to client programs. This is made possible through the work of volunteers who stage, produce and act during the show.
