Tucked away on a side street off bustling Wilshire Boulevard, Yuko Kitchen serves up home-cooked Japanese cuisine, a selection of desserts and unique beverages, including a wide variety of boba.
The Miracle Mile eatery has been open for almost three years, and has become a neighborhood staple. Many of their patrons come in to get “their usual,” a clear sign that Yuko Kitchen serves the caliber of food that keeps people wanting to come back.
The restaurant’s most popular dish is the chicken combination plate, a great choice for first time visitors as it offers a sampling of numerous menu items. For $9.75, the sizable platter includes teriyaki chicken (which can often be bland, but is remarkably flavorful here), rice, four pieces of their spicy tuna roll, salad with a tangy-spicy Asian dressing, a shot of the soup of the day and a mini dessert.
Another not-to-be-missed dish is the garlic albacore sashimi salad ($11.70), which comprises albacore tuna, rice, sautéed garlic, jalapenos, white onion and Kaiware sprouts served over a bed of mixed greens and topped with a ponzu sauce. While most salads are less-than-satisfying, this salad is served in a truly meal-sized portion that will satisfy not only with its size, but also with its delectable flavors, from the freshness of the albacore to the complementary punch added by the sautéed garlic.
Boba lovers are sure to be pleased with the selection here, which includes strawberry soda, honey green tee, mango banana, Chai chocolate and more. Stop in between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. for their daily boba happy hour, and get any boba drink for just $3.
If you’re looking for something truly refreshing, try their frozen mint lemonade, the perfect drink to savor on their outside patio under strings of fairy lights.
Want to enjoy an adult beverage? You can forgo the usually marked-up bottle prices you often find at restaurants, because Yuko Kitchen is B.Y.O.B. after 6 p.m., a rarity in L.A. (Trust me, I’ve searched far and wide for every bring-your-own-bottle establishment in the city.)
And don’t forget to leave room for dessert! All their offerings are prepared fresh on the premises, and their apple bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake – both served with homemade whipped cream – are sure to please any sweet tooth.
