On Saturday, Dec. 1, Topanga Canyon Gallery will hold an opening reception for its annual holiday show from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Each year, artists come together to celebrate the season and feature their many talents. Paintings, sculptures, watercolors, pastels, ceramics, glass, jewelry, gourd art, mixed media and photography will all be part of this year’s exhibition.

Topanga Canyon Gallery, formerly known as the Topanga Artists’ Guild, has been in existence since the 1950s. Like most galleries, the recession has affected sales and its everyday maintenance.

But despite the tough economic times, Topanga Canyon Gallery continues to have loyal customers. As an artist-owned collective, the customers are buying directly from the artists; the gallery only takes a small percentage of sales.

The holiday show is a wonderful chance to enjoy the season while shopping for one-of-a-kind gifts crafted by local artists. Once again, small works will be available from $20 to $50. The gallery has also chosen to waive its 20 percent commission on the $50 wall of art. Larger works, such as paintings, will also be available for less than $1,000.

Artist Lisa Goldfarb has been a member since March 2011. She loves being a member and the sense of community the gallery brings. Goldfarb has lived in New York City and Europe and talked about how she came to L.A.

“I've been following the pulse of art around the world,” she said. “It’s here now in L.A. I came to be apart of it.”

The holiday Show will be on view from Nov. 28 to Jan. 6 with an opening reception on Saturday Dec 1. The gallery will also be open late during Pine Tree Circle’s annual snow night on Saturday, Dec. 15, when the kids (and grown-up kids) frolic in real snow.
