CBS issued a “wardrobe advisory” to Grammy attendees, which stipulated that the awards ceremony attire be tasteful, and refrain from any kind of exposure. The notice, which went out on February 5 and which was able to obtain, went into great detail about the kind of costuming it deemed “problematic,” even going so far as to ban clothing that promoted “organized causes.” These kinds of regulations are due in large part to the broadcasting company’s past issues with television indecency; last June the Supreme Court threw out the lawsuit between CBS and the Federal Communications Commission after Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” at the 2004 Super Bowl.
