In the last 10 years, the U.S. Department of Education increased federal financial aid from $64 billion to $169 billion. However, new information from the American Association of Community Colleges suggests that students are utilizing funds for fraudulent purposes by using surplus funds for personal expenses. Although schools have been wising up and attempting to implement new policies such as waiting until mid-semester to cut refund checks and giving students vouchers to use at the campus bookstore, students are still finding ways to cheat the system.
