A new technology called CourseSmart, which is owned by Pearson, McGraw-Hill and other major publishers, allows professors to see which students have taken the time to do class reading assignments. The technology allows teachers to track each student’s reading habits, including highlighting passages and skipping pages. The point of the technology is to allow teachers to see when the class is falling behind and which students need to focus. Ultimately, it could be the beginning of a new e-book trend.
