In L.A., every day is a beach day. With that in mind, isn’t it time that a cell phone can let us chill on the sand without the fear that an incoming tide will short-circuit our beloved smartphone?

We think so, and we’re a little excited that Boost Mobile’s new Kyocera Hydro is letting us do just that.

Boost has come a long way from the pre-paid Motorola bricks they were originally known for circa 2005. Since then, Boost has become a part of the Sprint family and now offers a variety of smartphones without contracts.

The Kyocera Hydro runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and boasts that the phone can stay submerged in water up to 3 feet for more than 30 minutes. Besides the obvious waterproof feature, the Hydro also has a smooth and responsive touch screen and comes preloaded with all of your favorite Google applications. We also love the sleek design – it’s only 4.2 ounces and fits perfectly in your pocket.

The only downside to this little guy is the camera quality, which is only 3.2 megapixels. You’ll definitely want to supplement with a digital camera.

Other than that, the Hydro seems like a perfect fit for the average cell phone user. Plus, who wouldn’t want a phone where you can play angry birds in the pool, snapchat in the shower (not recommended), or even balance your online checkbook in the bath? We’re all for it.
