On Tuesday, the most restrictive ban on abortions in history was approved by a 228-196 House of Representatives vote. In theory, this new ban will not allow abortions to take place after 22 weeks of pregnancy, under the idea that at this point a fetus is too far developed and could possibly feel pain.
Pro-choice supporters can breathe easily for now, because the ban needs to pass in the Senate as well, which is currently controlled by the Democratic Party. The longevity and the future of the ban looks grim, but it is something Republican anti-abortion lawmakers are very passionate about. The ban is being labeled as one of the biggest pro-life pieces of legislation to have ever come before Congress.
