Just because a university is ranked No. 1 in the world, it doesn't mean it has the smartest students. At least, that's what Forbes' "20 Colleges with the Smartest Students" list tells us.

In October, Caltech was ranked the No. 1 university in the world based on its teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. However, the Pasadena school did not make the Forbes list.

The list is based on Luminosity's (a "leading brain training and neuroscience research company") ranking of college students. The company analyzed more than 70,000 undergrads by having them play cognitive training games.

According to Forbes, Caltech did not make the list because "it did not meet the cut-off of a 50-person sample of students with complete score and demographic data from the past year."

Here are the colleges that did make the list:

1. Washington University in St Louis

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

3. Princeton University

4. Northwestern University

5. Carnegie Mellon University

6. University of Chicago

7. Rice University

8. Harvard University

9. Yale University

10. Dartmouth College

11. Tufts University

12. Stanford University

13. Georgetown University

14. University of Notre Dame
