KTLA reports a water polo player at the University of Southern California died Wednesday, Jan. 8 after suffering a heart attack. He was 19 years old.

According to the Orange County Register, Jon Walters was battling pneumonia and kidney failure. He fell into a coma on Jan. 1.

Walters was a freshman on the champion-winning USC men's water polo team, which recently won its sixth consecutive national championship in December.

USC Head Coach Jovan Vavic said in a USC blog post, "Jon was a great Trojan, and an outstanding young man from a wonderful family."
