On Thursday, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park welcomed its newest member to its home, a 4.6-pound baby girl gorilla.

Imani, the mother gorilla, delivered successfully the baby and is now recuperating. However, life is proving to be difficult for the newborn. The baby gorilla is currently in intensive care receiving oxygen and supplemental fluids at the veterinary hospital.

This is the 17th gorilla that has ever been born at the San Diego Zoo, so the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center is doing everything in its power to keep this baby gorilla healthy.
