Binge drinking is something many college students partake in. Sometimes they drink excessively a few times a month or even a few times a week. However, studies are showing binge drinking can actually lead to cancer.

According to National Public Radio (NPR), “In 2009, an estimated 3.5 percent of all cancer deaths in the U.S. were alcohol related, and recent studies suggest that women who drank daily increased their risk of breast cancer by 13 percent.”

The article also states "alcohol can also lead to mouth, pancreas and liver cancer, but because these links have only been recently established, college students may be less aware of them."

Binge drinking has always been a problem within the college community. As students, we always had to worry about DUI’s, date rape drugs, passing out or even blacking out -- but cancer?

Now that these cancer risks are become more known, it's important for college students to watch how much they binge drink. After all, college and partying don’t last forever, but the body you live in will be yours for the rest of your life.
