If you loved the movie and NBC's live TV production in 2013, then you have to see "The Sound of Music" when it makes its way to Los Angeles next September as part of its North American tour.

Directed by Jack O'Brien, this brand new production of the Broadway and Hollywood favorite will be showing at the Ahmanson theater and other venues across the continent for multiple seasons.

"'The Sound of Music' has been in our ears for decades, as it deserves to be, but it might be time to look once more, and more closely, at this remarkable work which, I feel, begins to reveal itself as deeper, richer and more powerful than ever before," said O'Brien in a press release.

He added, "It's not longer 'your mother's familiar' 'Sound of Music' we're trotting out. We are tearing off the varnish of the past of one of the great, fresh glories of our theatre-going experience!"

O'Brien has the skills to bring success to this revival. Aftera all, he's a three-time Tony Award winner whose credits include "Hairspray," "The Full Monty," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "The Cast of Utopia."

The original "The Sound of Music" appeared on Broadway in 1959, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The motion picture came in 1965, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, and won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Casting and additional tour cities will be announced at a later time.
