As a long time Yankees fan, I took great pleasure watching the Red Sox suffer and not win a World Series for over 86 years due to mulitple reasons including the tongue and cheek, “Curse of The Bambino,” an unfortunate decision by Red Sox management to sell star player, Babe Ruth aka The Bambino to the New York Yankees in 1920. Before that dark day in the team's history, the Red Sox racked up 5 World Series titles, but after that trade, there was nothing but losses including, the 1975 series again the “Big Red Machine,” Cincinnati Reds who beat the Red Sox in a dramatic fashion: 4 games to 3. The heartache continued in the 1986 series when the Red Sox lost to the New York Mets. After being one out from a World Series victory in game 6, a ground ball went through the legs of first baseman, Bill Buckner, leading to a dramatic Mets win. The team went on to beat the Red Sox in game 7.
However, something changed in the 2004 American League Championship Series. The Red Sox, down 3 games to 0 against the New York Yankees mounted the most unbelievable turnaround in sports history, coming back to beat the Yankees and going on to win the World Series. Subsequently, the Red Sox would win 3 additional World Series including the 2018 series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Along the way, I have to admit that I started to admire these Red Sox. Under the leadership of General Manager, Theo Epstein, the Red Sox marched to the 2004 and 2007 titles with a talented group of players. Then they struck gold again in 2013. Along the way, there have been many great player stories and successes, and this year’s World Series title represents the best of the Red Sox, which notched a franchise-record 108 wins.
The 2018 Red Sox team dominated its way to a World Series title in a fashion that baseball fans have never seen. A relentless march through the regular season to the playoffs, led to the Red Sox beating The Dodgers for its fourth title since 2004 after blowing through the rival Yankees and defending champion Astros. Now, fans across Red Sox Nation are able to relive the exciting journey with two ultimate home entertainment collectibles, celebrating the team’s unforgettable championship title run. The 2018 Major League Baseball regular season ended with the Red Sox as favorites to win the World Series. Rookie manager Alex Cora inspired his team with an “all in” attitude and impressed with managerial mastery. Boston methodically advanced to the Fall Classic to face the Dodgers, and the Red Sox took Games 1 and 2 at Fenway Park. They were defeated in a historic 18-inning battle in Game 3, and then produced a dramatic comeback win in Game 4 before the convincing clincher in Game 5 that set off a victory celebration for a lineup including Willie Mays World Series MVP Steve Pearce, Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, J.D. Martinez, Jackie Bradley Jr., Mitch Moreland, Xander Bogaerts and Eduardo Nuñez, hurlers David Price, Chris Sale, Joe Kelly and Nathan Eovaldi and Cora, the first Puerto Rican manager to win a World Series championship. This talented, diverse, and historic team cemented its place in Boston lore as the greatest Red Sox team ever.
