In a place where oodles of musicians are bred, where some catch their big break and are eventually made into stars, it’s about time there was a place in Los Angeles to showcase exactly what the city is known for: rock ‘n’ roll.

Sure we’ve got the Walk of Fame and Guitar Centers Rock Walk, but never before has there been a place solely devoted to showcasing the rich history of rock music and its musicians, until now.

The Shooting Gallery, which had its grand opening in June, is a place where art meets rock ‘n’ roll and is the newest gathering spot for rock lovers, art lovers and music fans, where they can revisit legendary moments with legendary rock acts.

The Shooting Gallery was the idea of music business veteran Bobby Carlton, who has worked with bands such as Bush, the Circle Jerks, BuckCherry, Placebo and Tommy Lee to name a few. The Shooting Gallery will feature some of music’s greatest moments (including some never before seen classics) captured by its best photographers.  The first exhibit, which was also featured at the grand opening event, features collections from rock photographers Kevin Estrada and Richard E. Aaron.

Estrada, who describes his style as edgy and unorthodox, began photographing when he was 13 and has shot everyone from Motely Crue and Depeche Mode to Morrissey and Johnny Cash.

Aaron on the other hand, finds enjoyment in capturing the innocence of people and translate what he hears musically to what he sees musically. He has also worked with slews of musicians over the years, some including Van Halen, the Sex Pistols, Bob Marley and B.B. King.

In months to come, The Shooting Gallery eventually hopes to expand the gallery and make it a friendly place for people to gather. In addition to photographic exhibits, plans for displaying works of fine art from musicians and to also host poetry readings.

And not only will photographs and artwork be on display for those to see, but pieces of work will also be available to purchase.

Living in the very heart of rock ‘n’ roll town, there is access to just about everything it has to offer: the style, culture and even live music every night of the week.

Now, with The Shooting Gallery in town, people will have the opportunity to relive the fabulous moments of rock and visit those moments they may have missed.

The Shooting Gallery is open Thursday 11a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday – Saturday 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. For more information, call (323) 882-8340 or visit www.theshootinggallery.org.
