Growing up in LA has allowed me to explore several different hiking trails and see many memorable views. For new students and people coming to visit or live in Los Angeles, Campus Circle recommends these 10 hiking spots to make your time worthwile.
1. Solstice Canyon
3455 Solstice Canyon Rd, Malibu, CA 90265
Easy no-fuss walk alongside a flowing creek in a wide canyon. The big attraction on this 2.6-mile round trip hike is a small waterfall next to interesting ruins.
2. Escondido Falls
Escondido Canyon Trail, Malibu, CA 90265
When Escondido Falls is flowing strong, it is flat out one of the finest waterfalls around Los Angeles. The waterfall has an easy-to-reach lower tier that is 50 feet tall and a hard-to-reach upper tier that’s 150 feet tall and stunning in optimum conditions.
3. Temescal Canyon
15900 Pacific Coast Hwy., Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
Temescal Canyon Loop offers a good workout along with ocean and canyon views.
4. Griffith Park
4730 Crystal Springs Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027
With over 4,210 acres of both natural chaparral-covered terrain and landscaped parkland and picnic areas, Griffith Park is one of the largest municipal parks with urban wilderness areas in the United States.
5. Eaton Canyon
Eaton Canyon Falls Trail, California 91001
The forty-foot waterfall in Eaton Canyon fills an amphitheater at the top of Eaton Canyon Trail, tumbling into a wide pool that you can rest alongside or wade in.
6. Franklin Lake
2600 Franklin Canyon Drive, Beverly Hills, CA
Franklin Canyon Park rests on 605 acres near the center of Los Angeles between the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills. Within the park boundaries are chaparral, grasslands and oak woodlands, a three-acre lake, an ADA-accessible duck pond, expansive picnic grounds, and over five miles of hiking trails.
7. Charmlee Wilderness Park

Charmlee Wilderness Park is perched on a bluff overlooking Malibu’s alluring coast.
8. Fryman Canyon
8401 Mulholland Drive, Studio City, CA
Accessed from the Nancy Hoover Pohl Overlook on the north side of Mulholland Drive in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains, 122-acre Fryman Canyon Park offers spectacular views, a fitness course, and access to the Betty B. Dearing Cross Mountain Trail.
9. Runyon Canyon
2000 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046
Runyon Canyon Park is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Los Angeles and often shows up on publishers’ lists of best hikes in LA.
10. Malibu Creek State Park
1925 Las Virgenes Rd, Calabasas, CA 91301
Considered the recreational crown jewel of the Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu Creek State Park has over 8,000 acres of rolling tallgrass plains, oak savannas and dramatic peaks.
