College students and others who are looking to get ahead can now register for more than 500 courses currently being offered through Summer Sessions at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). No formal admission is required, so the registration process is open to non-admitted students from many different educational backgrounds, as well as those currently enrolled at CSULB. Classes are offered during three separate sessions (May 28th to July 5th; May 28th to August 16th; and July 8th to August 16th) with online, in-person, and technology-enhanced hybrid classroom options.

“Summer Sessions offer students some of our most popular courses,” said Mark Smith, Program Developer for Summer Sessions at CSULB. “With the variety of options, and a quieter campus environment than Fall or Spring, students have a chance to concentrate on classwork without the pressure of a full schedule.”

Many Summer Sessions courses are transferable to other colleges and universities, whether credits are needed for students to earn general education requirements, professional training certificates, or courses that apply specifically to their major. Summer Sessions classes can also help fill the educational gaps that occur when students need to drop a class because of difficult circumstances, or when classes are sometimes unavailable during regular semesters due to high demand. For other students, Summer Sessions classes simply provide the opportunity to catch up on course work and graduate on time.

“Summer Sessions is designed for those who want to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time,” said Smith. “Students can earn up to 14 units toward their degree, and smaller class sizes means more opportunity to interact with faculty.”
